Minella Racing is situated at John Nallen's farm and training facility in Lavally, a few kilometres outside Clonmel, County Tipperary in the South East of Ireland.

 The farm is located in the heart of Tipperary an area renowned for its mineral-rich soil and excellent grass composition. The farm sits in the shadow of the famous Sliabh na mBan Mountain and is close to the local heritage towns of Clonmel, Cashel, Cahir and Fethard.

The training facilities for young stock at Minella Racing are unrivalled with a 4 furlong circle gallop, a 7 furlong uphill straight and grass gallop affectionately known as the green mile and a schooling strip complete with all the educational tools one can imagine required to teach our precious Minella recruits all the basics they need to go on and do great things one day on the international stage for their new owners, trainers and jockeys. We also have an on-site horse spa and solarium for our four-legged future champions to enjoy as required.

Rachael Blackmore commented "He (John Nallen) is very good at what he does, he can obviously spot something in a foal I wish I could. It's fantastic what he's doing and I'm delighted to have ridden the biggest winner of my career on a Minella horse that came from here. It all starts in places like this and this is where horses get their education and it makes my job a lot easier when they leave a place like this (Minella Racing) with the grounding that they get."

All our horses enjoy plenty of grazing in the many pretty paddocks available to them and we weigh them regularly to ensure they are coming through the ranks nicely. We also use the finest quality feed from local supplier Charles Blackmore who coincidently is the Queen of Racing, Rachael Blackmore's father. 

On the farm, we also rear our own beef for the hotel and there is a real sense of an escape to the country once you drive in the gates at Minella Racing, something visitors comment on, time and time again.

Today, John and his sister, Elizabeth run Hotel Minella Clonmel with the same hands-on approach their parents taught them.

"Whether it's here on the farm at Minella Racing or at Hotel Minella, a commitment to supporting quality local produce is always at the forefront of what we do and that ethos has served our family well for generations. We are very lucky to live in an area that is renowned for the quality of our land and local food production and of course for excellence in all things equine." John commented in a recent interview.

Tipperary is home to some of the world's finest thoroughbred operations, such as, Ballydoyle Racing Stables and Coolmore Stud which are in close proximately to the Minella Racing training facilities and Hotel Minella. It is also home to the famous Equine Warehouse a popular shopping expedition catering for both horse and rider as well as fashion conscious outdoorsy and country folk. 'The Fethard Horse County Experience' offers an extraordinary museum visit to the equine enthusiast, who makes the trip to Tipp for one of our popular Minella Racing Experience Packages this year.
